After studying at the the University Paris IV-La Sorbonne, I wrote a ‘Doctorat d'État' at the University Paris 8 under the supervision of Gilles Deleuze (1987), who prefaced the publication (Les Temps Capitaux, 1991 / Capital Times, 1996) . I taught at the Universities and Schools of Fine Arts of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), Vienna (Akbild), Karlsruhe (HFG) and Goldsmiths (London), before joining the Centre for Research in Modern European Philosophy (CRMEP) at Middlesex University in 2004 as Senior Research Fellow, then Professor of Contemporary French Philosophy (2007). I moved to take up a professorship at the University of Paris 8 in January 2011, shortly after the CRMEP moved to Kingston.  I hold a fractional position in the CRMEP.

Research

I'm currently working on two research projects. After the publication of Défaire l'image. De l'art contemporain (2013)/Undoing the Image (English translation in 5 volumes, 2017-2025) focused on a critique of 'aesthetics' from the perspective of a diagrammatic regime of contemporary art, and its suite Duchamp avec (et contre) Lacan. Essai de Muthologie queer (2022)/Duchamp With (and Against) Lacan. An Essay in Queer Mutology (2022), I am preparing a book on Pop Art  and its queer politics (perversion vs subversion). The second, in collaboration with Maurizio Lazzarato, doubles the counter-history of capitalism proposed in Guerres et Capital (2016)/Wars and Capital (2018) with a philosophical-political reflexion about the erasure of the strategic problem-question of revolution after 1968, in the context of the fully positive Spinozist ontology developed by the French and Italian radical thought :  Wars and Revolution. Or Difference and Negation (due to be published in French at the end of 2025).
