I joined Kingston Universityin 2005 and was head of the Film Department for four years, followed by four years as the Director of Research in Film. I became Professor of Film and Cultural Studies in 2013.

Teaching and learning

I teach primarily on the BA Hons in Film Cultures, the BA Hons in Media and Communication, and the two MA programmes in Film and Media. I deliver guest lectures across the Faculty and supervise PhD students.

My research explores the changing meanings of cultural icons across different historical and cultural contexts, and my books include Batman Unmasked, Using the Force, Alice's Adventures, The Audience Studies Reader, The Blade Runner Experience, the BFI volume on Star Wars, Hunting the Dark Knight, Why Bowie Matters and Forever Stardust: David Bowie Across The Universe. My next book is The Truth About Lisa Jewell.
